This carving had a pretty good start when problems started to show up.
This view is a little more detailed of the upper left hand corner of the stock shown above.
This view is an overall carving view and you will be able to see the problem if you look closely.
The view below shows the detail of the problem and we were perplexed as to what it was. Maybe a worm or possibly the wood grew around something. At the time the Grand Canyon had nothing on this crevice. It was the time invested in trying to find a good solution to the problem that would work out with the final finish and not be seen.
A knot on the back side of the stock was what we eventually thought it was. In reality it is anyone's guess.
